Why was the Ford Bronco Discontinued?

One of the main reasons that are often considered to have caused the discontinuation of the Bronco was the “soccer mom” era.

During the 90s, SUVs were becoming a hot seller, not because of their ability to be rugged and off-road, but because of their ability to haul around families and gear to games, practices, events, etc. They were seeing a lot more use on pavement than off.

The Broncos biggest disadvantage in this arena was the fact that it was a 2 door vehicle. Not only was it a 2 door, but the access to the back seats was not easy. The front seats need to be folded forward, and people need to crawl up and squeeze between the front seat and the door frame to get into the back seat. This made it difficult to get kids in and out, and especially for baby seats. A four-door was much more practical in this regard.

Then, the Bronco had a fully removable rear roof, which made making a 4 door version out of it next to impossible without an entire redesign of the vehicle. There simply was nowhere for engineers to put rear doors on it to access the back seats.

So, instead of reworking the Bronco, Ford made an entirely new vehicle from the ground up that fit these demands: The Ford Expedition. They very well could have called it the Ford Bronco, but didn’t. Once the Expedition was out, they retired the Bronco.

It has come back:

We saw that earlier this year, Ford held a presentation where they teased the public with a handful of new car models including the Bronco, Baby Bronco, Explorer ST and Mustang Shelby GT500.

Since then Bronco has been building a significant buzz in recent months, the nameplate now has become one of the top cars being searched on internet platforms. Ford is currently holding up most of the details about the 2021 Bronco line-up until the evening of 13th July when they plan to unveil the all-new 2021 ford broncos all at the same time through a bidding system. And the company has paired with Disney for the debut of the Bronco family.

One can choose from a 2 door, a 4 door, and bronco sport. From the teaser which Ford launched a few months back one can see a two-door bronco which seems to be a Jeep Wrangler competitor. The two-door and four doors Bronco are going to be built on the ranger chassis, but it does look bigger than the ranger.

The new Bronco is expected to have 2 different engines available. The 2.3 L EcoBoost and the 2.7 L EcoBoost. The amazing part of two and four doors is that they will come with bigger touch screens and will come with a newer interior which is going to be very reminiscent of the new F-150. So yes it’s gonna be a Jeep wrangler competitor but it’s gonna have a much nicer interior. The new Bronco comes with 7-speed manual transmission with crawl gear. With the new bronco, one will get a great fuel economy and will have a lot more control when one is off-roading.

The Bronco sport is only available in 4 doors. The inspiration is taken from Ford Escape, as ford said that the escape is going to be the street version and Bronco sport is going to be the off-road version of the same vehicle.

The bronco will also have multiple patterns that allow you to remove the doors without any tools. The 2021 bronco will also have the ability to store those doors in the cargo area of the vehicle. The bronco will also come available in a hardtop and a soft top. The side mirrors by the look of it have been moved from the door onto the actual eight pillars of the vehicle.

The bronco was originally supposed to reveal on the 9th of July but Ford moved it to the 13th of July after backlash over the date which coincided with O.J Simpson’s birthday. When its showcased one will see how ford has incorporated boxy retro styling, removable doors, and roof, and off-road attitude.
