Road and transport authority (RTA) came up with this happy news for all the motorists across UAE as now they have the flexibility to pay fines in 12 interests- free installments by using the credit cards of seven select banks. Irrespective of cars registered in all emirates, the offer is valid only on fines issued by the RTA in Dubai.
Abu Dhabi Police added that the drivers can now pay their traffic fines in interest-free installments. According to the Abu Dhabi Police, to be eligible, drivers must have a credit card covered by one of five banks —
- First Abu Dhabi Bank
- Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank
- Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank
- Mashreq Al Islami
- Emirates Islamic Bank.
To avail the services, drivers must have credit cards issued by one of the above-mentioned banks. A motorist has to contact the bank directly, within a period of two weeks and not exceeding, from the date of being booked, to request for payment of traffic fines in installments.
The Abu Dhabi police said :
“The service allows fines to be paid through Abu Dhabi Police service centers and digital channels such as the website and the smartphone application, with a one-year installment system without any interest charged”
Authorities have called on the public to take advantage of the installment facility because it was easier and convenient for many motorists. The police also added that: “The service aims to ease life for drivers and vehicle owners by paying off the traffic violation fines in installments throughout the year.”
235 crashes due to sudden swerving on Abu Dhabi roads
As many as 4,311 violations were recorded against drivers caught changing lanes suddenly and without using indicators from January until August 20 last year, the Abu Dhabi Police pointed out. These led to 235 crashes in which one person died and six others were injured. The fine for the abrupt change of lane is Dh1,000 and four black points. The sudden change of lanes has been reported among the most common causes of accidents on Abu Dhabi roads.
The police commented after the fresh warnings:
“Sudden swerving and jumping another lane in front of a vehicle without using signals can result in fatal accidents and lead to traffic fines,” They added that switching of lanes without indication was very dangerous.
Another benefit offered is that there is no limit on the fine amount which can be remitted through the installments only through the RTA Dubai smartphone application.
