Subaru hosted the SubieFest a few weeks back , and attendees got a sneak peek of the 2022 subaru brz teased on social media for the first time, the sports car, which will once again be a twin to the Toyota 86, will officially premiere this fall, and is marketed as a 2022 model year, meaning that it should start arriving at dealers across the Globe in the second half of 2021.
The brz official teaser is not that revealing, partially showing a camouflaged prototype’s 10-spoke front left wheel and an air vent on the fender. Nonetheless, we have a pretty good image of what we should expect from previous spy shots, meaning a cleaner design and with a big front grille.
Along with the images come some leaked specifications. It looks like the car is sitting in some sort of tent, waiting to be shown off. Subaru did mention that attendees of Subiefest 2020 would receive a sneak peek at the car, so we assume this is what the company was referring to in its teaser statement.
These leaked images are not the first time we’ve spotted the new BRZ, as the car was previously spotted undergoing testing outside of Toyota’s research and development facility in Michigan. Remember, the new BRZ is being developed with Toyota, and will also go on sale as the Toyota 86.
The BRZ will reportedly use a 2.4-liter naturally aspirated boxer-four, producing 217 horsepower and 177 lb-ft of torque. While not the turbocharged numbers some hoped for, these are both healthy increases over the outgoing BRZ. The addition of a turbocharger would likely put the 86 too close to the four-cylinder Supra’s performance, which may explain why the twins will keep a naturally aspirated engine.
Production reportedly starts in spring 2021, meaning the car could arrive late next year. No official announcements or teasers have come from the Toyota camp as of yet.
