Lincoln has been going ALL-IN with their new products and this 2020 Lincoln Corsair is an appealing one!
The new Lincoln Corsair is a precedent of a mini Lincoln aviator but of course at a much more affordable price. It replaces the ageing MKC for the 2020 model year. The heads of luxury SUV buyers will turn as the new Lincoln Corsair comes with handsome styling and deluxe interiors. However the best features of this car are hidden behind a paywall of expensive option packages and as compared to its contenders such as the Audi Q5, BMW X3, and Mercedes-Benz GLC-class, its driving dynamics aren’t sorted.
The Corsair model is an all-new model for 2020 and has enough cachet to make it a far better ambassador for Lincoln in the compact luxury SUV segment than its predecessor, the MKC. A plug-in hybrid model is expected to go on sale in the summer of 2020 as a 2021 model.
Two turbocharged four-cylinder engines from the MKC carry over. That means either a 250-hp 2.0 litre or 280-hp 2.3-liter four; both engines come with an eight-speed automatic transmission. With the smaller engine, buyers can choose from either front-or all-wheel drive but opting for the 2.3-litre brings all-wheel drive as standard. Choosing the more powerful of the two turbocharged engines does not negatively impact fuel economy much.
The new lincoln corsair boasts a handsome cabin that’s similar to those in other SUV offerings from Lincoln such as the navigator, the Nautilus, and the aviator; it’s upholstered in soft leather and offers plenty of features. Adjustable ambient lighting, 24-way power-adjustable and perfect position seats, a head-up display, and an app that allows users to unlock the lock, and start the vehicle with their smartphone are all available– although ordering such items will add a princely sum to the bottom line. The Corsair’s cargo bay is generously sized, one can manage to fit 8 carry-on suitcases behind the rear seats, beating the X3 by one case; Lowering the rear seatbacks to their flat position opened up room for 21 cases in total.
The infotainment system is standard i.e. 8-inch touchscreen (sync 3) however a 12.3 inch is optional. The interface is fairly easy to use, and handy joysticks on the steering wheel help the driver avoid reaching for the screen too often. Every car model is equipped with Apple car play and Android Auto but one has to pay extra for an in-dash navigation system.
The new lincoln corsair ratings is 5 stars given by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and named it as a Top Safety Pick for 2020. All models come with basic driver assistance features that Lincoln calls Co- Pilot360, however, if one wants to unlock high-tech assists such as a self-parking feature or adaptive cruise control, one can upgrade to the optional Co-Pilot 360 Plus system.
