The year 2020 will probably be in the history books as the big well we had to stay at home a lot. Volkswagen used this time to give the team a facelift to the Areton, now only now we have new optics, we also have new engines and body variants.

The old Arteon was a pretty nice looking car so Volkswagen hasn’t changed much for this new model at all. The biggest difference is a new strip of daytime running lights on the grill that stretch from one headlight to the other. It makes the Arteon face look a little bit like robocop’s which makes it pretty cool though but the big gaps around the Volkswagen badge kind of spoil the effect.

Volkswagen also tweaked the Itunes brake lights and they’ve given our live models a set of four chrome exhaust tips instead of two. Although these are almost certainly not really like they were in the old car. They all certainly are getting a thorough stick of truthing. The rest of Arteon looks pretty much the same as the previous model so it’s a bit sportier than a Passat but not quite as aggressive as an Audi A5 sport back

Volkswagen arteon performance

Volkswagen is making a proper high-performance R version of this new Areteon; it uses similar mechanical bits to the forthcoming Golf R. So it gets a turbocharged 2 litres four-cylinder engine and four-wheel drive as standard. The new arteon has no V6 here like in the Tuaregar, that’s not to say the new arteon R is going to be down on power though it makes 320 horsepower and has 420-newton meters of torque. Now Volkswagen has not announced how fast it will be but one can bet the Arteon will north to 60 in less than 5 seconds which should make it slightly quicker accelerating than diesel-powered Audi S5 Sportback.

The new Areteon also comes with some visual upgrades so people can tell its an R model even when it stopped at the traffic lights. For starters gets a black grille and 20-inch alloy wheels and tinted brake lights. There is also a sports exhaust suspension that’s 20 millimetres lower than the standard car and blue paint option that is exclusive to R and R line models.

Volkswagen arteon shooting brake

There is big news for the Arteon that now it’s in estate version obviously it’s not called an estate because it’s a german car. For instance, Audi says the estates are advanced Bmws are touring and Mercedes has wagons and now Volkswagen has chosen the name shooting break for its brand. Arteon’s shooting break does sound classier than arteon estate which sort of sounds like a housing development.

The car looks really good as It gets a longer flatter roof than the regular Arten that just really suits a car and the kink in the rear window means it looks lower and longer than the regular Arten but it’s the same length as a standard saloon and it’s even 19 millimetres taller.

The whole point of a shooting brake is to be more practical than a hatchback or a saloon. The boot of autumn shooting brakes is bigger than the regular cars, it’s 2 litres bigger. The passengers in the rear seats get a little more headroom, that said the Arteon shooting brakes boot still has 565 litres of luggage space which 85 litres more than anything you can fit in an Audi A5 Sportback.

Volkswagen made a few changes to Arteon interiors as well. The old car’s analogue clock has gone and the physical heating controls have also been removed. Now one can see a row of touch-sensitive keys under the infotainment system. The system is frankly very easy to use while you’re driving. They have also changed the layout of the dashboard and air vents with that one can see fancier interior trims. So now, you can choose to pay for carbon fibre or eucalyptus inserts for a more natural feel. The car also comes with six different styles of seat trim and mood lighting where you can choose from 30 different colours.

Volkswagen arteon engine

With this new car, one will be able to have less expensive, more economical  engine options. Petrol includes a 150 horsepower, 1.5 litres and a 2 litre with either 190 or 280 horsepower the latter of which is all-wheel drive rather than front-wheel drive. For the diesel lovers, there is a 2-litre with either 150 or 190 horsepower.

Volkswagen has also added a hybrid to the archan range that uses 1.5-litre petrol and an electric motor to produce a combined 218 horsepower. Fully charged its 13-kilowatt battery and you can drive for around 33 miles in electric-only mode. You can turn on or set the car’s air conditioning remotely using an app on your phone that’s handy on very hot or cold days.

Volkswagen arteon tech

Volkswagen has upgraded the Arteons infotainment system; it’s the same as you get in the recently revised Passat. There is a 9-inch touchscreen as standard which is the same size as the upgraded optional display you could get in the old Arteon. As well as you get the same old digital as well. However, you can now connect your phone via apple car play and android auto without using a cable. Now it’s all connected through Bluetooth and the Volkswagen connect app lets you use your smartphone as a key to unlock the car. The new Arteon comes with Volswagen voice command system which is supposed to understand plain speech.

Safety

The new arteon comes with upgraded cruise control that’ll keep working to 131 miles an hour. It also accelerates brakes and steers for you in traffic. It can recognize road works and slow down for them. Volkswagen has upgraded the sensors that can tell when you are not holding the wheel. Meanwhile as standard there the usual auto emergency braking park assist and automatic headlights.
